Day 4-Crayon Tinting, Embroidery and Crazy Quilt Block

It certainly has been a productive day today and I completed what I set out to do, even if I did it in a different order.

The first project of the day was the Summer Creativity Challenge. This time it was the rose.

The inspiration for this project came from Alicia in Hawaii.

The first stage was to raid the boys pencil box and find some wax crayons. I used 3 different shades of red for the petals, green for the leaves and a green and orange brown for the stem. I then coloured in the image just as if it was in a colouring book.

The crayon then has to be fixed and this is done under a hot iron. I used kitchen roll over the image and then placed the hot iron on the top.

This is repeated until there is nothing on the blotting sheet.

Here is the image after the crayon has been fixed.

Then I had the fun of stitching. The stem and outline of the leaves were stitched using stem stitch and the petal and veins were done using split stitch.

Once this was done I made up the next crazy quilt block ready for stitching Tuesday.

This is the pattern that D drew for me.

And here it is stitched up. In reality, it is a darker green than the camera catches.

I have been able to fit in a few minutes of cross stitch and I shall probably do a bit more of that this evening. That's after sorting out my sewing basket and tin. If I find my way out of the tangle, I'll see you tomorrow.
