Home Exchange

This months theme on Exchange Heaven was "home". I wasn't quite sure what I was going to do, but as I was sorting through all my charts and kits for something else, I came across this kit from Jane Greenoff's Inglestone Collection, The Kitchen Sampler.

I had intended to do this many years ago for my kitchen, but I am hoping it will have a happy home in Edit's kitchen in sunny Spain. It will certainly be warmer than here in South Yorkshire. This was such a fun stitch as I could complete each motif in turn. No huge areas of back stitching at the end of the project. The alphabet particularly, stitched up very quickly.

I have a large collection of buttons, so I used some of the white ones for the plates on the dresser.

I had fully intended to frame this, but I didn't have any the right size here, and my framing equipment isn't that readily accessible. Instead, I decided to make a wall hanging and use the quilt hanger I acquired last month. I thought the hearts went very well with the sentiment on the sampler.

This was the first time I have used a quilt hanger, and if I can find more reasonably priced, I will definitely use them again. It just seems to add to the overall look. The backing fabric I used matches the blue used in the border, so it all ties in very well.

This was so much fun to stitch and I hope it will be very happy in it's new home.

Next months theme is autumn. I have the stitching, just need to think of a way to finish it. How organised is that! Don't worry, it probably won't last.

That is a lovely sampler...looks just like my kitchen, even with the dresser (we went for the trad. Irish look which translates as couldn't afford a fitted kitchen lol)
