Geometric Waistcoat

For the life of me, I cannot get the camera to get the colour of the yarn right.  In real life, the colours are darker.  When the snow melts, I might take it outside to see if I can a better representation.

I got the pattern from an internet site, e-pattern central.  It is so simple to do, I think I am going to do another one. I have enough of the yarn to do a second.

The yarn is selfpatterning, so you get stripes as you knit and because you are decreasing in the middle of the row, you end up with a mitred square.  The back is worked in two halves and seamed in the middle and then a border is done on the bottom of the back and the two fronts.

It's all knit in garter stitch, so very easy and quick to do.  Now, I just need to go and get a button and this is the first finish for this year.

What a cool pattern. It's amazing to me how that self-striping works so well. That is just a gorgeous piece.

I have that same problem with my camera all the time. It's so cold and windy that I can't try outside or whatever I'm photographing will just blow away!

Mitering offers such interesting design options. You really did get long stripes. Very nice.

That is really effective. Thanks for explaining how it was achieved.

How cool! One never sees a good waistcoat anymore (at least in the US - it's always a "sweater vest" or some other odd name).

That's a lovely thing to have as your First Finish 2010!
