It's Fits

The table topper is quilted, bound, washed and dried.

It's the perfect size for the space and now, the chess set, my little swap cushions, and the panda have a cosy home.  It also helps to hide the battle scars of the chest too, which is most important.

mystery Monday-Finish single block Two

This is the second block left over from the mystery Monday quilt top.  I managed to find fabric pieces large enough to add the borders, making this about fifteen and a half inches square.  The backing is the same as the first table topper, and I used some brown for the binding.  This one has a much more Autumn feel to it.

I've also managed to find buttons for the little jacket, so that is now completely finished.

From the same place that I bought the buttons, I managed to find another pattern for girl's jackets that I liked, so, sometime in the near future, another jacket will be appearing.  

Mystery Monday-finish single block one

Thank you to all those that suggested using this blocks in the back.  I had thought of that, but decided to make table toppers out of them.

  Again, I've gone through my scraps and stash to find the borders and backing.

 I added two borders, so now it's the right size for a small table topper.

Some of the backing was also used for the binding.  I quilted in the ditch to keep it simple.  Now I will have to see what I've got for the second block.

Small Quilt Talk Challenge No 11

Having got some more of the correct white, I was able to go back and finish the basket quilt.  I only needed three more white squares to finish the front.

Once the front was done, it was time to decide on the back.  I had a piece of the pink striped fabric that kept in with the pink theme I was using.  I squared off the piece and added more white for the borders to make it big enough.

After simple quilting, I also used the white for the binding. The table quilt measures about 24" square.

The small pieces in the block may have been a challenge, but it was one I enjoyed doing, and I look forward to the next one.

Table Topper

Being home has it's advantages, it means I get to use the sewing machine again. That's twice in a matter of days and the result is another finished item.

 This crumb block runner was waiting for a backing, quilting and binding.

The binding was fabric that I already had, but I had to buy backing.

That's two items finished, but there are still thirteen left in my pile.  They are all waiting for borders, backing, or bindings, or even all three.  I should be able to get one more done this week as I now have stocked up on the white fabric I needed.  The others might just have to wait a little longer, but it is progress, even if a little slow.

Garden of Tulips

It's been a great week this week for getting things finished.  After a big piece of batting arriving in the post, I could get the tulip applique wall hanging finished.

I've used the same stripey fabric for the binding, which I hand finished.  As this could be used for a table topper or a wall hanging, I put in a hanging sleeve.

So glad to have something else completed to clear some space.  Next thing on the list is a pile of flying geese units.

Friday Night Sew In

Finally, I'm beginning to get some projects completed, and it feels good.   There's nothing like knowing that lots of people will be joining in on the FNSI to get you motivated.

This is the first of the purple table toppers to get completed.  I used simple quilting on this one.  I went around the ditch of the inner square and then diagonally across from the inner corners.  The binding was machine stitched on, and a quick finish was the result. 

The rest of the evening was spent adding more back stitch detailing to the the cross stitch.  Hopefully,  a couple more evenings will see this done.  In the meantime, the garden is calling out for some attention.

More Purple

With the next lot of my purple scraps, I used the block from Challenge No 2 from the Small Quilt Talk Yahoo Group.  I am finding working the smaller blocks a challenge, they are less forgiving than larger blocks, but I am sure, with practise it will get easier.

I've got to the stage where it's all sandwiched together and ready for quilting.  I didn't feel like quilting it at the time, so worked on making some purple crumb blocks.  These are still a work in progress.  Hopefully, I can get back to it later in the week.

Rainbow Scrap Challenge-purple

The colour chosen for this month's Rainbow Scrap Challenge is purple.  Having gone through all my fabric, there wasn't a lot of purple to play with.  I'm not sure if I should be happy or sad, but it won't mean there will be a lack of things for me to do.

As I didn't have much to play with, I thought it might be a good idea to use some of the ideas from the Small Quilt Talk Yahoo Group.  I went back through the files and went back to Challenge 1 for the blocks.  Even though I knew these were small quilts, the 11/2" squares were still a surprise.

I just made as many blocks as the fabric let me, and as there were only four of each, I've made it into a table topper.

I did have enough of the heat proof batting, but no fabric for the backing.  This will have to go and sit in the unfinished pile for a little while, but I did enjoy making some small blocks.

Day of Change

As I was supposed to be taking Daniel to an art workshop, I knew that there wouldn't be much time for sewing, but with an hour to spare before leaving, I thought I'd see how far I got with binding the mats.

 The small cats mat got done first, and I still had time.

 Next came the mug rug/pot stand and it was time to get ready to leave.  Just as I got my shoes, there was a text on my phone to say the workshop had been cancelled.  What was I going to do now?

After about five minutes to collect my thoughts, I was back in the kitchen, put on a saucepan of sweet potato and chili soup to cook and the larger of the cat mats was on the sewing machine to be bound.

By the time I'd done this the soup was cooked, so off went the gas, and the table topper was next to be bound.

This has now gone to be washed.  The pencil lines I'd drawn for quilting(which I didn't use) need to be washed out, and the cats hairs need to be removed.  This one is not for them, no matter what they think.

By the end of the morning I didn't think I was going to have, the cats had two new place mats, all my waiting mats had been bound, and I had a large saucepan of soup!

More Red

For someone that didn't think they had a lot of red, these scraps seem to be going a very long way.  I got a table topper made yesterday, all it needs is some binding.  I used a piece of red gingham for the backing.

I think this will go in Daniel's room for him to put under all his carnivorous plant paraphernalia.

Even with this done, there are still more scraps.  At the moment, they are laid out ready for piecing.  There will definitely be a mat for the cats dishes, but then I am undecided.  I'll either have two mug rugs or a small table topper.  I'll just have to see what happens when they get to the sewing machine.

A Day for Finishing

As I now had the blue thread that I needed, I could spend some time finishing all the table toppers and coasters that had been waiting patiently.

And a set of coaster, two large, one mini.  These will probably be gifts for a friend.

Unfortunately, I have to take the boys out today, so the machine will  be getting a rest.  I have just a few more things I'd like to get done before the end of the month.  Hopefully, I can have a good sewing weekend.

Playing with blue scraps

Scrappy Saturday carried on into Monday, as I am trying to get all the blue out of the way by the end of the month.  It would still be here if I only worked with it on Saturdays.

 First up, was to make a scrappy table topper.

 I even had the backing here in my stash.  There is enough to back everything in the same fabric.

Next was a mug rug.  Unfortunately, no quilting or finishing could take place as I have run out of blue thread!

In the meantime, I have prepared a mini table topper and at least three coasters.  They are all waiting patiently for finishing.

As I was tidying up, I found some more little scraps and they told me what to make.  Hopefully, the thoughts will become reality over the next couple of days.
