Our House

With Jonathan's quilt out of the way, it means I can go back and finish some of  the other quilt tops on my shelf.

The houses quilt I did along with Terry was next in line.  It's backed with the same orange as the chimneys on the orange houses, and the binding is a dark blue.   I thought having a dark binding was perfect for all the bright colours in the quilt.  There is a hanging sleeve on the back, so it can be used flat or hung on the wall.

Thank you Terry, it was fun to do this with you, and almost as good as popping round  for a sewing session.

I even managed to get another two bonus crumb blocks done too.

Borders

The borders and rows have been added, and now the top is completed.

I need to shop for fabric for the backing, as I don't have enough of anything here.  I shall then do a dark binding to finish it off.  I quite like the colour in this one, even though it's not something I would normally choose to do.  Terry has almost finished hers, so I'm looking forward to seeing it once she has it posted on her blog.

No Longer Detached

I had my doubts when I first made the red houses, and,  as the months have gone on, I finally decided I wouldn't be using them in the final quilt.  That meant I had to think of something to replace the red block.

I could have made another house block, but thought that maybe a "park" would be what was needed for this housing development.

Before the rows could go together, my green block had to be made.

This was the centre around which the rest of the house would sit.

Here are my rows altogether. 

The next thing to do now, is the rows to go between, and the borders.  These will be made from 21/2" squares of fabric used in all the blocks.  Hopefully, this should tie them all in together.

Blue Houses

Back to the houses QAL with Terry, and this month it is blue.  I have my two blue houses, which seems very appropriate for the temperatures we are having at the moment, but despite the cold, I am happy with how they turned out.

Terry and I have decided that we are happy with nine houses in our quilts, so I need to retrieve the houses from previous months and decide which nine will go in the main quilt.  The one left over will probably make it into a cushion.

Once I've decided on the houses, it will be time to sort out how they will come together and sort out some binding and backing for it.  First I must choose my houses.

Green Houses

According to my youngest son, you can never have enough green houses, but I don't think he meant these sort of green houses.

These blocks are getting easier and quicker to finish after four months of practise.  Next month we will be adding blue houses to our collections.  I can't wait to see how they turn out.

Yellow Houses

After a manic few days, I finally got to the sewing machine.  I cut out my fabrics and put together my yellow houses.

I think these are my favourites so far.

I also got another crumb block finished to add to my collection.

The pile is very gradually growing, but there is still some way to go before there will be enough for a whole quilt.

Building Houses

Terry and I are doing a QAL of our own. Terry has wanted to do a House quilt for a very long time, and we decided to do one together. Terry found a pattern here and we got started. As I was already working with red, our first houses were going to be red.

 My houses are definitely scrappy, as I was using all I had in the red.  It seemed a good idea at the time, but I am rethinking.
